The generator gives you styled text. Getting it into the app is where people actually get stuck. Here’s the sequence that works, and the half-dozen reasons it fails.

On iPhone

  1. Open the generator in Safari or Chrome and type your text.
  2. Tap the Copy button next to the style you want.
  3. iOS shows a small “Copied” banner — if you don’t see it, the copy didn’t take. Tap again.
  4. Switch to the target app and open the field you want to change.
  5. Long-press inside the empty field until the magnifier appears, then release and tap Paste.
  6. Tap Done / Save.

iPhone gotcha: iOS sometimes replaces styled characters with a plain approximation when autocorrect is active. If your text comes out looking normal, turn off Settings → General → Keyboard → Auto-Correction temporarily, paste, then turn it back on.

Second gotcha: the iOS clipboard can drop characters that the keyboard’s font doesn’t include. If you paste and see boxes, the issue is font coverage, not the clipboard — switch to a safer style.

On Android

  1. Open the generator in Chrome.
  2. Tap Copy.
  3. Switch apps and open the field.
  4. Long-press the field, then tap Paste from the menu. If no menu appears, tap the clipboard icon on the keyboard (Gboard shows it in the top toolbar).
  5. Save.

Android gotcha: Gboard’s clipboard history expires after one hour by default. If you copied a while ago, go back and copy again rather than hunting through clipboard history.

Second gotcha: some Android manufacturers ship reduced font sets. If a style works on your friend’s Pixel and shows boxes on your device, that’s the font file, not the text. Try bold or small caps instead.

Why it reverts after saving

Three causes, in order of frequency:

  1. Server-side normalization. The platform accepted your characters, then rewrote them on sync. Instagram and Discord both do this with some ranges. Re-paste once; if it reverts twice, that platform rejects that style.
  2. The field has a validator. Display names on some platforms only allow a restricted set. Usernames almost always do. Bios are far more permissive than usernames — put the styling in the bio.
  3. Your keyboard stripped it while editing. If you go back and edit one character in the middle of styled text, autocorrect may flatten the whole string. Delete and re-paste rather than editing in place.

The reliable workflow

  • Generate → copy → paste → leave the app → come back and verify.
  • Never edit styled text character-by-character. Re-generate and re-paste.
  • Keep one plain-text backup of the original in Notes. If a platform eats it, you can restore in seconds instead of retyping.

Copying from a desktop instead

If you’re at a laptop: generate, copy, then send it to yourself in any chat you can open on your phone, and copy from there. This round-trip occasionally mangles combining marks — strikethrough and underline are the most fragile — so verify on the phone before committing.

Quick note on length

Styled characters are not always one character to the platform’s counter. A 25-character limit can reject your 20-character styled name. If a save fails with no explanation, shorten the string first. That’s the cause more often than anything else.
