You don’t need Photoshop for cool text effects. You just need Unicode.

Here are 20 effects you can pull off with nothing but your keyboard and a Unicode generator. Every example is real text you can copy and paste.

1. Bold serif

𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨

The OG bold. Uses Mathematical Bold Capital/Small Letters (U+1D400..U+1D419).

2. Italic serif

𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑜

Italic from the Mathematical Italic block.

3. Bold italic

𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐

Bold plus italic combined.

4. Bold sans-serif

𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼

Sans-serif bold. Cleaner than serif.

5. Italic sans-serif

𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰

Clean italic.

6. Cursive script

𝓗𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓸

The aesthetic standard.

7. Bold cursive script

𝓗𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓸 in bold variant.

Heavier cursive for stronger presence.

8. Fraktur (Gothic)

ℌ𝔢𝔩𝔩𝔬

The old-English look.

9. Double-struck

ℍ𝕖𝕝𝕝𝕠

Outline letters. Common in math (ℂ ℍ ℕ ℙ ℚ ℝ ℤ).

10. Monospace

𝙷𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚘

Fixed-width letters. Typewriter vibe.

11. Sans-serif plain

𝖧𝖾𝗅𝗅𝗈

Mathematical Sans-Serif.

12. Small caps

ʜᴇʟʟᴏ

Lowercase mapped to small-cap Unicode characters.

13. Circled (bubble)

Ⓗⓔⓛⓛⓞ

Letters inside circles. Playful and eye-catching.

14. Black bubble

🅗🅔🅛🅛🅞

Filled bubbles. Better contrast on light backgrounds.

15. Squared

🄷🄴🄻🄻🄾

Letters inside squares. Geometric and modern.

16. Parenthesized

⒣⒠⒩⒩⒪

Letters in parentheses. Subtle alternative.

17. Fullwidth

Hello

Each character is twice as wide as normal. Vaporwave aesthetic.

18. Superscript

ᴴᵉˡˡᵒ

Tiny characters above the baseline. Math and footnote markers.

19. Subscript

Hₑₗₗₒ

Tiny characters below the baseline. Chemistry formulas.

20. Strikethrough

H̶e̶l̶l̶o̶

A line through every character. Uses combining macron (U+0336).

Bonus: glitch / Zalgo

Zalgo stacks combining diacritical marks above, below, and through each character. Mini Zalgo is still readable. Heavy Zalgo is intentionally unreadable — it’s an aesthetic, not communication.

Use mini for “subtly cursed”. Use heavy for “my screen is haunted”.

Bonus: upside down

ǝlןןɐɥ — each character has an inverted Unicode counterpart. We map your text and reverse the order so it reads correctly when flipped. Punctuation flips too (? becomes ¿, ! becomes ¡).

Which effect for which vibe

  • Soft / aesthetic — cursive script, small caps
  • Bold / confident — bold serif, bold sans
  • Vintage / edgy — fraktur, double-struck
  • Playful — bubble, squared, fullwidth
  • Spooky — Zalgo, upside-down, mirror
  • Minimal — small caps, superscript, monospace

Pick one. Mixing four fonts in one caption is the fastest way to look messy.

Now go try them out. ✦
